ROAD TRANSPORT

Road Transport – all pets travelling by road must be fully Vaccinated to the individual state locations, all pets will travel in airport approved travel crates. Pets from NON- Pet families do not share. For longer road transport destinations – overnight accommodation will be included in the transport price.

Air Transport: Interstate ONLY


At Hunter Pet Motel we book all our pets travelling direct with Virgin, the service that we offer can be door to door or even door to Airport. We do not offer a self-customer lodgement service. At all times your pet will travel in only Airline approved transport crates. Please note that NOT all breeds are able to fly and a list is attached.

 

Age restrictions apply and all pups between the age of 8-12 weeks must have an Approved Fit to Fly Certificate issued by a Registered Veterinary Surgeon. All pets must be fully vaccinated as per the requirements of the new destination your pet is travelling to – ask your Veterinary Surgeon for more details. Our staff have extensive experience in the pet transport industry – let us take the worry out of your next relocation.

Brachycephalic (snub nosed)

The following breeds have been identified, in consultation with industry experts, as higher risk/venerable Brachycephalic (snub nosed) animals requiring specific welfare considerations. And are therefore unable to fly on aircraft in Australia.

While any dog or cat is susceptible to heat stress, Brachycephalic (snub-nosed / flat-faced) breeds are generally at greater risk of heat stress when compared to dogs and cats with a normal muzzle length.  Abnormal brachycephalic anatomy makes it difficult for these animals to adequately thermo-regulate and oxygenate sometimes even under normal conditions. 

For this reason, Hunter Pet Motel is unable to accept these breeds for air transport as per airline regulations – this is to ensure the welfare of Brachycephalic animals during transport.

Due to the inherent anatomical features of these animals, additional breeds have been included these include cross breeds with the below animals in these requirements

Additional Breeds

Please note the following dog breeds (including crossbreeds) are prohibited for import into Australia under “The Customs (prohibited imports) Regulations 1956” and will not be accepted for travel:

  • Fila Brasilerio
  • Japanese Tosa
  • Dogo Argentino
  • American Pit Bull and other Pit Bull Breeds
  • Perro de Presa Canario (Presa Canario)           

 

Domestic/non-domestic hybrids (e.g. dog-wolf crosses) are also prohibited under the “Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999”.

  • Czechoslovakian wolfdog or Czechoslovakian Vlcak
  • Saarloos wolfdog or Saarloos wolfhound
  • Lupo Italiano or Italian wolfdog
  • Kunming wolfdog or Kunming dog.
